Message from the Chair

Dear Leaders and Colleagues,
In this month's newsletter, I am pleased to share several announcements, including key milestones for the IAMRA 2027 Conference in Hong Kong.
Call for Abstracts
The Call for Abstracts is now open. The conference theme, "Reimagining Medical Regulation: Bridging Education to Practice to Shape the Healthcare Workforce," invites regulators, educators, researchers, policymakers, and healthcare leaders to share innovative ideas, analysis, and practical experiences. We welcome abstracts on a broad range of topics, including future-ready regulation, artificial intelligence, accreditation and medical education, regulatory assessment and remediation, health workforce sustainability, and people-focused regulation. Submissions close 15 February 2027. I strongly encourage Members and Partners to submit an abstract and contribute to this rich and engaging programme.
Call for Abstract Reviewers
To further ensure a high-quality scientific programme, IAMRA will soon invite interested members to serve as abstract reviewers. This is an opportunity to grow involvement, share expertise, support peer learning, and help shape discussions that will inform the future of medical regulation globally.
Travelling to Hong Kong
Conference registration will open in early 2027. As you begin planning to attend IAMRA 2027, please consult the conference website for travel information. In particular, please review the passport and visa requirements well in advance of travel. Hong Kong offers visa-free entry for nationals of many countries and territories, but requirements vary.
IAMRA 2029 Conference Host
IAMRA will invite Expressions of Interest to host IAMRA 2029 later this month. I encourage you to consider this opportunity to partner with us and welcome global regulatory leaders to your jurisdiction. We will announce the IAMRA 2029 host when we gather in Hong Kong.
Additional Announcements
Consultation on Draft AI Policy Guidance
The consultation period for IAMRA's draft AI Policy Guidance closes on 27 October, and we are eager to receive your feedback.
Members and Partners have frequently requested this guidance, which aims to help regulators navigate the opportunities and challenges of artificial intelligence. Consultation materials are available in the new Consultations section of the Members Hub on the IAMRA website.
IAMRA Webinars
On behalf of the Board, I extend our sincere thanks to Prof. Kerrin Begg, Health Professions Council of South Africa; Prof. Dr. Sharifah Sulaiha, Malaysia Medical Council; and Ms. Stephanie Price, Federation of Medical Regulatory Authorities of Canada, for their valuable contributions to the webinar, "Determining Cross-Border 'Equivalency' in Medical Education and Training: Global Perspectives." They highlighted the importance of building transparent, consistent, and trusted systems to assess international qualifications and training.
Our next webinar, "Empowering Women in Healthcare: Through a Regulator's Lens," takes place on 17 November and features Dr. Dina Al-Smail, Executive Director, Health Diplomacy Program, Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS):
Thank you for your continued engagement. I look forward to seeing the ideas, innovations, and collaborations that emerge through the abstract submission process, our AI consultation, and the many opportunities for participation across the IAMRA community in the months ahead.
Warm regards,
Nicole Krishnaswami, JD
